Another award is lurking in Mariana Pajon's sites and this time all her fans can help our BMX queen make it hers. The Antioquian rider has been nominated for Athlete of the Year by El Espectador, the newspaper that gives out the most prestigious sports award in the country, and starting today, anyone can vote by logging on to www.elespectador.com/deportista.
Mariana will be up against some of the greatest athletes in the country in the elite category such as Radamel Falcao, Nisida Palomeque, Yuri Alvear, and Tour de LAvenir winner, Esteban Chavez. They have all had wonderfull results in their respective disciplines, but only Pajon was able to be world number one and win World, Panamerican, and National titles in 2011.
"I am very greatful to all the people who have supported me with heartfelt messages that I find every day. The support means alot to me", said Mariana on her twitter page after she found out about her nomination.
The award will be given out, like in previous years, in Decembre; more specifically, December 7th at 10 AM, in the conference hall of the Sheraton Hotel in Bogota. The young rider looks to enter a prestigious list that includes Carlos Valderrama, Maria Luisa Calle, and Ruben Dario Gomez, who was the first winner in 1960. She will also try to get one closer to Juan Pablo Montoya, Maria Isabel Urrutia, and Cochise Rodriguez, who are the only athletes to win on three occasions.
